Derby Teaching Schools Alliance

About training provider

Derby Teaching Schools Alliance (DTSA) offer Primary and Secondary School Direct courses that provide the skills schools are searching for in a newly qualified teacher.

Working in conjunction with the University of Derby and two placement schools from the local area, trainees will become work ready, and over the last four years we have a 100% employment rate by the end of the course. Working in two different schools enables trainees to experience Primary or Secondary education across different Key Stages.

The course lasts one year and results in QTS, PGCE and 60 credits towards a Masters.

DTSA have a well-established partnership with the University of Derby enabling us to provide a well-balanced course of both academic development and practical teaching application. Our particular strengths are that our courses are run by those who have been senior school teachers and university academics so that you are well prepared in both the practical and academic elements of the PGCE.

DTSA also run the UK STEM Learning Science Learning Partnership (SLP) and so provide additional support for primary trainees and secondary STEM trainees. DTSA also run the Derbyshire Governance Partnership (DGP) and so trainees get to learn about the current system and are offered wider opportunities, this can feed into your NQT and RQT years, as we provide support through the early stages of training into being a qualified teacher and then into leadership roles.
